I was at GABF 2002. It was Saturday night and we decided to go to Falling Rock. I was getting tired of breadth after the dozens of beers at the festival and was craving a full pint that I could spend some time with. I finally made my way up to the bar and asked the bartender if he could suggest a porter. He grabbed a pint and amidst the colorful taps chose a non-descript anonymous handle. He muttered something about a "hammer" that I couldn't hear above the noise. Half way through the pint I was in awe- dark chocolate, silky moutheel, a touch of sour to balance the sweet. After a second pint I swore I would find more when I got home. After searching the web I figured out that it was Heavyweight and contacted Tom who told me that that '02 GABF keg was driven in a car all the way to Colorado. To this day it stands as one of the aha moments in my beer journey. Thanks your contribution to that moment and for cheerleading the return of the Hammer!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7315262155858800734.post-64317796687393140022007-06-11T11:33:00.000-04:002007-06-11T11:33:00.000-04:002007-06-11T11:33:00.000-04:00Oh, yeah, black raspberry ice cream!
