Still Not Feeling Well...but the beer's good

I'm up in the Poconos with my in-laws, and while I'm still not feeling very well (had a good day yesterday, but I'm sneezing and coughing worse than ever today), Carl and I tapped into a delicious sixtel of Sierra Nevada Celebration late yesterday afternoon, supplementing it with a bottle of Berentzen Apfelkorn schnapps. That was all pretty damned good. I had to do some work this morning -- writing the New Products column for the next issue of Malt Advocate -- but I'm ready to get a little more of that now. Hops are medicinal, aren't they?

Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Lew,

Is the Apfelkorn you refer to available in PA? They6 list a Berentzen Imperial Appel Liqueur at 40 proof. That it?

You've recommended this stuff before and I'm getting curious.

Happy Thanksgiving! There's a lot to be thankful for. Now go eat!

Not to be completely creepy, but it seems as though you may be in the same area as I. I live near Bethlehem, are you close by?

That should be the stuff, Sam; I've bought it at the State Store a number of times. It's good!

Glenn, I live down in Bucks, but we were up in the Poconos for the week, northwest of Bushkill.

I was down (for me) in the pocono's last week as well. I had a hard tome finding any craft beer where we went. Thankfully I boruhgt some Harpoon, Mayflower and my own homebrew from Boston. Lake harmony is a real nice area though. Any suggestions for places to go for next year?

We had a good time over the summer up near Elk Mountain, Jason. But I'm really just getting to know the Poconos myself; drove through it a lot, but never really stayed there much until this year.

I fear that The Poconos are a dreadful place when it come to craft brew. There's a place in tannersville, right off route 80 called Barley Creek Brewing, and brewpub. Their stuff's not half bad, but it's not really anything to write home about either. You kind of either need to drive to the Allentown/Bethlehem area or NJ to find much of anything. If you head the other direction, Wilkes-Barre doesn't have much as far as brewpubs, but two places with great selections are Elmer Sudds (good atmosphere, ok food) and the Anthracire Cafe (average atmosphere, superior food).
