Moving On

There is going to be a major change in this blog.

I'm going to stop writing it...mostly.

I have accepted a full-time position as managing editor of Whisky Advocate magazine, which starts today. Part of the terms of employment were that my writing is to be exclusive to the magazine, so I agreed to stop writing further about beer and whiskey on this blog.

I will still be writing occasionally about personal travel, and since I'm still very much a beer and whiskey drinker, there will be talk about that. But I'll be writing tasting notes and trend analysis elsewhere. An exception was made for the Session Beer Project blog, and it will continue, so there's that.

It's been fun. It's been an education. I thank you all for reading, and I hope some of you will stick around for the next chapter. I'll have some information for you next year about a project I'm currently wrapping up: my first whiskey book, titled Tasting Whiskey, from Storey Publishing, due out next year about this time.

Quick nap before continuing to write more Tasting Whiskey...

Lew. You CAN'T not write this blog. That's all there is to it. Rewrite the conditions of the contract. Period. End of story.

Because I am god and I have spoken.

PS: sob snurfle. sobbbb. Sniff.

PPS: CONGRATULATIONS

Ah, Louis. I need to get a response from Abe Overholt in here.

Best of luck and wishing you success, but... that was an AWFUL thing to agree to. What in the world would a whisky mag have to fear from a personal blog, and primarily a beer one at that?

Since I don't really drink whisky or scotch I guess I won't be reading much from you anymore... makes me sad.

It's all about exclusivity. I mean, I can't write for another magazine, either. It comes with the territory. Not the first time I've encountered it, but it is the first time I've been offered compensation for it!

Oh man, another blogger down. Your excuse is by far the best of any in recent memory, and so grace is warranted. Godspeed and remember: whisky begins as beer.

Thanks, Jeff; odd synchronicity, in that I was just writing that very sentiment -- whiskey starts as beer -- in a book manuscript when your comment came in.

Cheers!

Congratulations! Thanks for the thoughtful posts. As managing editor, will you be stressing liberal use of bold print in every article and review? I'm picturing Shanken and Hansell doing a double spit-take when they see everything bolded but "a," "and" and "the"!
