After over a month, my other blog has lurched back into relevancy:
there's a new Reason Why the PLCB Should Be Abolished. This time it's about how the PLCB and The Almighty Liquor Code don't really care about you; they just want your money. You're shocked, I'm sure. Read, enjoy, get pissed off.

You make some possibly valid points then its...'we should be able to bring our dog to the bar'....really? you want to drink with your dog buy a six pack and stay home. no offense to you or your dog, i'm sure its a great dog, buts its a dog.
Actually, I was kind of kidding about the dog. Though I do think it should be up to the owner of the bar if they want to allow dogs. I've been in bars that allow dogs; it's not so bad.
Really...dogs in bars are cool. I have been to southeast England, Portland, OR and most recently in Asheville, NC and dogs are allowed in many establishments.
I would assume with the comment of, "it's just a dog", you don't own one. If you did, you would understand.
There was a great bar down in Deutschtown in North Side of Pittsburgh. I think it was called the Beer Haus or the Bier House I can not rmember exactly, but anyway the owner had this big bulldog that hung out in the bar I think his name was stoney anyway that dog was great realy helped made that bar a nice hangout
Oh and btw, the PLCB is giant putrid, festering sore on the soul of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Actually, boys, I own two dogs, and believe strongly that they should stay at home. Although mine tend to be well-behaved, I have been in too many situations where someone's dog in a public place is a genuine pain in the ass, much like undisciplined children have been known to be. Dogs are not children, and though I love them, mine ARE just dogs, and they have no potential to annoy someone else if they're left at home.
Interesting that the dogs have stirred up this much comment. I can see your point, Sam. I'd just like the owner to have the option of allowing -- and disallowing -- dogs based solely on the bar owner's judgment in individual cases. You might say that throwing one person's dog out will hurt their feelings; that's something the bar owner will have to take into account, as well as the feelings of folks like you and the first commenter. It's like non-smoking bars before the PA state-wide ban: up to the owner. Selin's Grove brewpub banned smoking from the get-go, and no one seemed to have a problem with that; if they did, they went elsewhere or smoked outside. Ditto with dogs, no?
But really...I didn't mean to spark a "dogs in bars" discussion!
JP,
Yeah, the Bierhaus, just over the little hill from Penn Brewery. It may be closed, or at least Jerry sold it. Great place, great dog. Had some fun nights there, drinking Iron City and Penn Pilsner.
Right, Jerry he used to work at CMU as a facility manager, nice guy. He had a great collection of brewerania in there. Now Lew that was a place that was close to a German Lokal (discussion from a couple of weeks ago) not the most exotic or refined in the world but pretty darn good (Penn Brewing and ICB) but still a place I would go any day. I would also humbly submit Selin's Grove. A different atmosphere than Deutschtahn, but really that place could be located on the Moselle, Rhein or Elbe as easily as the Susquehanna, and the beer is, well, an added bonus (I really like that cream ale)
Good point about Selin's Grove...although I could see it in the UK, too. Good bar, great regulars and staff. Wish it were a LOT closer, or a bar like it was. The Newportville Inn near me has potential; need to get down there a few more times to really get the feel. You know: the hard part of my job...
Agreed on your position that it should be a choice of the owner. Libertarians unite!
Yeah, Jerry's Bierhauswas a great bar. Been there a couple times, but wasn't aware he had divested himself of it. Great selection of locals on tap. Wish I was there right now.
