Slap the PLCB today

I just posted in my PLCB blog about a poll running in today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. I'd like to encourage you to go vote NO on the poll, saying you oppose the PLCB's automated wine kiosk and "boutique" wine store schemes. The reasons are here. This agency is out of its mind, and must be stopped. FREE THE BOOZE!

Update: YES! Results came in at 73% NO, 22% yes. I don't know -- or care -- how many "No" votes came from anti-alcohol types; we won this one. Wine kiosks and mini-wine boutiques...as if.

I know we all have our reasons for disliking the PLCB. And lets add the gaming commission to our list also, after seeing my property tax break! BUT, is anyone else bothered by the fact that the stores do not carry more local wines? We have some really great local wineries. The only problem is how difficult it is to buy a bottle of PA wine since the PLCB stores only carry about a dozen. Also, what is all this talk about raising our taxes when the PLCB run stores had a record year. And while I am spouting off how can a private company make money off the turnpike and our government can't?! Sorry...I got completly off the subject...I need to stop watching the news!

Agreed. Dont know why you dont see more local wines except in brewpubs. Also wonder why many otherwise environmentally conscious people are going for wines from Chile, New Zealand and Australia when there are fine wines made here.

I think the local wine situation is one of supply. The PLCB has this thing where they're supposed to stock every one of their stores with the same products; that's a big chunk for a small winery. PA wineries are also allowed to sell their wine themselves, at the winery, at special winery stores, AND AT WINE FESTIVALS. Man, tell me that doesn't suck that brewers can't do that...

THE only reason the plcb made a profit was because their is less stock in the warehouse and specialty wines to and charging more to the vendors for floor space and self space, and a lot of the stock we can not get.
