Richbrau Closes

Just saw that Richbrau has closed its doors yesterday in the Shockoe Slip area of Richmond. Richbrau had issues, but the Porter was always good, the seasonals were great, and it was good to have a brewpub in this cool section of town. Sad to see you go, Richbrau.

I looked at the website which is still active and saw they have a 14 barrel system but only make 700 barrels a year. That comes out to less than a batch per week. I can't imagine being successful with such low utilization, the overheads and salaries would be killer. However it is a sad day whenever a brewery fails.

I used to travel to Richmond pretty regularly on business. We'd stay in the Shockoe Slip area and visit Richbrau every time. Great old building, and pretty good beer. Too bad.

I was planning on going to Richbrau this spring. My Brother-in-Law lives down in VA.
On a side note Did Legacy Brewing close their doors too?! Their site is down and their phones don't work.

I believe Legacy has ceased brewing at the site in Reading. As I understand it, they sold the brands, and the new owner may be having them contract-brewed...but I'm not sure of that.

Hell, it's sad to see the BLUE OX in NE Philly close too. I thought they were making a good go of it too! Sad.

I traveled to Richmond many times on business.. never fell in love with Legacy or Richbrau as i spent most of my time at the Capital Ale House. Was attempting to go down on an extended weekend last fall for the history and the beer, but it never materialized. Now i'm sad that 2/3 of the beer spots i used hit up are gone.

Legacy in Reading PA, not to be confused with Legend Brewing in Richmond. Legend is open and brewing. Sorry for any confusion & sorry for going off topic.

Seems to me like people are confusing Legend (richmond) with Legacy (Reading).
