Long Trail Brewing to purchase Otter Creek

Andy Crouch is reporting that Long Trail Brewing is in the process of buying Otter Creek/Wolaver's. More micro consolidation. He's got some good speculation on the bigger picture, too, and it ties in directly to the situation at Penn. Interesting times.

Loop's right here, Rebecca; just take a look three posts before this one.

Transplanted New Englander sez: We get Otter Creek in the Midwest, but not Long Trail -- if Double Bag suddenly appears out here because of the merger, it's all to the good!

A number of the posts on OC/LT have talked about the growing consolidation in the craft beer industry, but they only mention two mergers over a couple of years, plus the "Craft Beer Alliance," which is more of a buy-in than a merger. I have no feeling about consolidation one way or another, but wonder if a merger a year can really be considered a trend?

Wow.. um.. don't know how I feel about that. It seems weird to see that happening particularly since Long Trail Amber and Otter Creek Copper were two of the three beers that kicked off the beer passion for me. All that would need to happen is for Harpoon to join the mix and there would be all three under one roof (Harpoon IPA)
