Lew, when Jeff and I recently discussed his concept of a "conn-o-session" at the KSQ beerfest for 2009, he indicated that it would be all cask-conditioned session ales....what a lovely event that would be.
I keep thinking of Casey Hughes dark mild made with Belgian yeast from the second runnings of the Expresso Porter that he served at the GLI&B Winterfest last Saturday. It was the best brew of the day for me at only 4.6% abv!!
Cheers - Richard
We discussed that at length, Richard, and got some extensive and useful free advice from cask expert Alex Hall. Session beer is great on cask, of course, perhaps where it really shines, so we wanted to find a way to do it.
But we finally reached the conclusion that a large outdoor cask event in the first week of October -- given the event's history of wildly variable weather (anyone remember the cold, drenching rain the one year? I know I do...), the up-front expense of equipment, and the lack of trained cellarmen--er, cellarfolk -- was just not in the cards, and reluctantly gave it up. That's not to say it's not a possibility in the future.
I will never pay the high extra price for Connoisseur tix for low alcohol beer.
So Michael...does that mean beer's all about the alcohol for you? For me it's about the flavor, and the fun, and the folks. Don't worry, they'll sell the ticket to someone else.
