Genesee triumphantly returns to the Rochester skyline
Boston has the giant CITGO sign. Baltimore has the eerily blue Bromo-Seltzer Tower. Philly's PSFS Building's red marquee still glows, even though the company failed in 1992.
Rochester had a landmark sign, the Genesee Beer & Ale sign. But for the past 40 years, you could only see it in the daylight. One of the first things North American Breweries has done as the new owners of the brewery by the Genesee river (you can see the High Falls in the lower corner of the picture below, and the tanks of the brewery at the top center) is to repair that sign. As you can see in the video above, they lit the sucker up in July. It was a pretty popular event for the town, and a proud moment for the brewery.
Now...how about a nice cold can of Genny Cream?

And the "font" reflects the older cans!
(I mean, duh, the sign dates back to those days, but still it brings back fond memories!)
Awesome to see a new-era owner of a traditional brewery pay attention to something aesthetic like that. Usually they're already figuring out how NOT to spend money on any aspect of the plant.
I still think both Genesee and Genny Light are among the best mainstream beers of their type anywhere, and I wish NAB the best of luck with their venture.
Sure! I'll be having a cream tonight at the mission street bar and grill on the southside of pittsburgh instead of an Iron.
Hey, Tom Hickman...are you related to Tim?
Genny Cream is the only beer my 89-year-old father will drink, but since his stroke he says it doesn't taste so good. If you wanted to drink beer in Dad's house on Dad's dime, you drank Genny Cream, so I've had gallons of the stuff. It's potable, especially when it's free.
Frankly, I prefer le nature
Since you mentioned cream Ale...Lancaster Brewing Co. in Lancaster has a limited cream ale on tap. Very good!
Chuck, your Dad's spot-on here. Genny Cream HAS changed. The formulation these days is not as sweet as in the past, and I like it better that way. Always had a hard time with it back then, which made me more of a regular Genny fan. Maybe you should get him some of the coming Liebotschaner from the Lion brewery in Wilkes-Barre, PA. It had garnered a lot of accolades before they discontinued it a couple years back.
Dad knows his cream ale!
Great to see the sign light up. Any news on the resumption of tours? Had some Genny Cream Ale this summer. First time since high school probably. Enjoyed it. Now if the would bring back the returnable bottles!
Does anyone know if the Utica club sign at the Matt Brewery lights up?
Will Lion ever get their cream ale out in the market? They announced its return about this time last year.
